We celebrated Payton's Second Birthday with a "Three-Ring Circus" this past Saturday! Her cousins, Kaitlyn and Ethan, also share January birthdays, so we had a combined party for the three of them. Fun was had by all! Here are a few snapshots from our day...

I can't believe my baby girl turned two yesterday! We are having her birthday party next week, but we wanted to do something fun for her actual birthday too, so we headed to Chucky Cheese for fun with friends. Back at home, Payton opened a few presents from out-of-town family. Here are a few snapshots from our evening.

Last Saturday, Payton and I joined my sister-in-law, Mary, and some of her family for an afternoon all about Christmas cookies! We had a great time! Payton wasn't too sure about it at first, but quickly came to see how much fun it was. She wasn't ready to go home!!!

Singing Christmas Tree 2009

Tonight is the final performance of the Hobe Sound Bible Church Singing Christmas Tree 2009! Participating in the Tree requires lots of hard work for everyone involved, but it is truly rewarding when I remember how privileged I am to have even a small part in reaching thousands of people with the message of the REAL reason for celebrating CHRISTmas!

This year, I sang with the choir, Robb was the accompanist (what a huge job...and he did it SO WELL), and Payton was one of the "snow" children riding in the sleigh. Fortunately for her, her best friend, Zachary Heath, also rode in the sleigh. They were joined by two other adorable little girls. We snapped a few quick pictures last night of Payton and Zachary. These two are just too cute, in my opinion! These aren't "poses"...they really act like this most of the time when they are together!!!

Payton's recent fascination with her Mother Goose book is most entertaining. She loves for me to sing the little songs with her (the ones I don't know a melody for, we just make up!). For most of the songs, I do little motions to help her learn them. "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "Eensy Weensy Spider", and "Old King Cole" are her favorites. I got lucky and got her to sing "Twinkle" on video!!!! (You'll have to ignore my baby-talk prompting!)

Believe it or not, it snowed in Florida on Saturday night! Okay, fake snow, but fun all the same! We took Payton to CityPlace (a big outdoor shopping/restaurant place) for the tree lighting and snowfal...pretty realistic! She really enjoyed it!

On our way to the restaurant, Payton saw this bronze statue...just couldn't understand why he wouldn't talk back to her!

Back at home, Mommy's shoes are a great distraction!

We joined good friends for a delicious dinner. This is Payton with her best buddy, Zachary Heath. These two are SO funny together, and love each other dearly!

Trick-or-Treat!

Payton and I joined some of the young families from the Ochelata church for a hayride and trick-or-treating around town. (Robb had food poisoning, we think...no fun, but short-lived, thank the Lord!) We had a wonderful time, and especially enjoyed the cool fall weather!!! Here area few pictures from the evening.

Miss Piggy had just woken up from a little cat-nap, so it took awhile to get going!

Neewollah Parade

Though the circumstances surrounding our trip to the midwest were certainly unpleasant, we were able to enjoy some fun fall activities...in real fall weather! On Saturday morning, we joined lots of my family and several friends at a huge 2-hour parade in Independence, Kansas. I grew up going to this parade every Halloween weekend...very much a Kansas tradition! It was SO fun to go back again; brought back lots of great memories! The weather couldn't have been better, the food was as great as I remembered, and the company was just the best! Payton loved it all, of course...almost as much as all the lollipops...apparently her candy of choice!

This was her first lollipop (to my knowledge, anyway!) She loved it!

I was so thrilled that my very dear childhood friend, Liz Stetler, was in town for the weekend. It has been a few years since we've managed to be in the same place at the same time. It was so wonderful to spend just a little time together with Lizzy and her three beautiful children!

A Celebration

Friday was the funeral for my grandmother, whom we call "Memaw". We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful or special day, celebrating our memories of her and the godly life she lived.

I'm not one to take pictures of funerals, but did snap a quick picture of her freshly covered grave later in the day. I'm so thankful that Memaw isn't really buried, but rather in Heaven with Jesus and friends and family who've gone before.

This is looking out at the hills, away from the cemetary. Earlier in the day, the view was beautiful, but I didn't have my camera. As my dad says, this part of Oklahoma is just
plain pretty!

A huge thank you to all the family and friends who came to the visitation and funeral. We appreciated your support. I am proud of what a difference Memaw and Papaw have made in so many lives, evident by all those who came to pay their respects.

Girl's Week Out

Payton and I just got home from a wonderful week visiting one of my very best friends, Tamela, in Virginia (about 4 hours north of Roanoke, I think!) They are pastoring a growing church there. Melvin and Tamela were gracious hosts, and we had a fabulous time catching up and enjoying quality time together.

One afternoon we went to a big outdoor shopping center. Payton LOVED this big fountain!

She was ready to jump right in!

Meeting "Callie" the kitten. Payton quickly fell in love!

Amazingly enough, the kitty did too! Payton loved carrying it around. We (and the kitten!) had to quickly teach her that carrying it by the tail or neck was not the best of ideas!

We were trying for a photo shoot...very difficult with a wiggly 18-month-old and a squirmy 8-week old kitten!

Payton was broken-hearted at being separated, even for a few minutes, from her new little friend! This picture made me laugh!

Payton loved playing outside every evening. So nice to not worry about pesky mesquitos, and to just be able to enjoy the nice weather!

Payton really got into the PS2 football game! Melvin gave her a disconnected one, and she thought she was big stuff!!!

Melvin and Tamela took us to the Smiths' farm one afternoon so that Payton could take her first "real" horse ride!

She would only pet the horse with one finger...so funny!

She was nervous at first...

but loved it as soon as they started moving!

"Thank you, Melvin, for such a good time!!!"

Then it was off to feed the chickens....Payton loved it!

One really great thing (there are many!) about Chad, Jennifer, and the boys moving to Indiana is that they only live about an hour and a half from Robb's sister, Rhoda, and her family. It is so great to be able to visit both sides of the family in the same state--seems like everyone is so spread out! Rhoda, Brooklyn, and Brittany met us halfway at a nice park on Monday morning. Payton, of course, loved the attention from her big cousins, and Jennifer, Theresa (Jennifer's mom), and I had a great time visiting with Rhoda! The kids were moving too quickly to get very many pictures, but here are a few...

I told Rhoda that I would love to bring her two girls home with me for awhile! They are so sweet and careful with Payton...and all three of them love it!

Huff Family Reunion-- Day Seven

We made the 3 hour drive to Minneapolis late Friday night. On Saturday morning, we were able to spend a few hours at the Mall of America before our flight left. What a COOL MALL!!! I love meandering through malls anyway, but this place was pretty incredible. The entire middle of the mall is one huge amusement park, with several roller coasters, a big water ride, lots of kiddie rides, a huge Lego center, an American Girl doll place, etc., etc. It was a lot of fun to visit!

Huff Family Reunion-- Day Six

On Friday, the last day of the reunion, everyone was busy cleaning, packing, ,and tying up loose ends, but we made time for a visit to the local cemetary. Robb's oldest sister, Ronda, died when she was only 8 weeks old, and was buried in this beautiful cemetary, along with their grandparents. It was a special family time. Then, we headed back to the cabin to soak up the last bit of family fun!

We are just back from a fabulous week in Minnesota! We were so happy to be able to attend the Huff Family Reunion. Many of Robb's extended family were present, as well as all of his immediate family. I had never met most of the extended family, but was so happy I had the opportunity. They are wonderful people, and we had a great time with all of them. Christmas came early for Payton! I was SO excited to recently find the Pottery Barn Kids Classic Kitchen on Craigslist for an awesome price. It is such a great little kitchen set...solid wood, with light pink accents. It has a little stove with knobs that turn, etc., a little sink that holds water (yikes!), and the refrigerator has shelves to hold all the accessories! It is in perfect condition!!! I just couldn't make myself wait to give it to her, so we had Christmas in July! Payton has played, and played, and played with it already...and I just picked it up last night!

All the pots, pans, dishes, and play food came with it...all in perfect, new condition.

I just love Craigslist!!!

We were invited to join friends for an evening of fireworks and ice cream...the true all-American treat! Payton absolutely LOVED the fireworks!

She didn't understand why she couldn't hold it! She kept trying to "catch" the sparkles!

Hobe Sound Bible Church July 4th Community Day!

Our church hosted its second annual July 4th Community Day. We were out of town last year, but were happy to be part of it this year. There are several different bounce houses/slides, a petting zoo, pony rides, and lots of food...all for free, as a gift to our community. Such a great idea and lots of fun, too! Here are a few pictures from the day...

Robb and my dad ran the drink machines for a couple of hours, while my mom and I made many, many sno-cones over the course of about 2 hours!

Payton was MUCH more interested in her sno-cone than a photo op!

Getting a little hot and tired!

The little petting zoo was the perfect "first animal experience" for Payton! She was so funny...she was so serious about it...just trying to figure it all out, I guess! The poor duck in this picture had quite the exciting experience. Right after that little boy set the duck down, Payton decided to give it a try. She picked it up by its tail! Of course, the duck started flapping everywhere trying to get free, and Payton just stood there holding it! It was like she was so suprised that it was moving, that she couldn't let go! We were laughing so hard...her eyes got really big! Then, she just kind of threw it, suddenly, like she had finally processed that this thing was ALIVE!!! It was SO funny!!!

She liked petting this little goat, and called it a "doggy"!

Next was the bounce house...apparently daddies like this as much as little girls!

She loves to "bounce", so this big bounce house was like heaven to her!

Time for a ride! It was hard to get a good picture, but Payton loved this! She just kept grinning really big...it was so cute!

Even though it was so, so hot, we had a great time. I'm looking forward to next year!

I started gathering laundry this afternoon, and realized I had a shadow! Payton was working so hard to carry her laundry basket around! It was so cute, I had to snap a picture! Looks like child labor, huh?! (Just kidding of course!) Payton is doing great at learning how to pick up toys, etc., so maybe we'll just add laundry to the list!!!

Father's Day 2009

Father's Day was such a special family day. We celebrated with a beautiful church service, a delicious, traditional family dinner, and a relaxing evening!

This makes me almost tear up. We were just at a beautiful wedding last Saturday, and when I saw my two favorite people in the world walking down the aisle together the following morning, I was reminded again of how quickly life passes by. We are doing our best to enjoy every moment of it together! Before we know it, it will be Payton in a white wedding gown, walking down the aisle on Robb's arm...I'm stopping there before I cry!!!!!

I love my dad so much. He has always been, and continues to be a wonderful father to both Robb and I. He is a man of integrity and strong character, and I am proud to be his daughter. On a lighter note...he is a WONDERFUL Grandpa, too! He has Payton plumb spoiled, as he is content to sit with Payton in the playroom and play with her. I love it...he doesn't just watch her play, but he plays with her! I think he has just as much fun as she does!!! She just LOVES her Grandpa, and usually is not ready to come home after she's been there!

What an incredibly fun day!!! Payton and I joined her cousins and a few friends at the nearby "jumping fountains" for some fun in the sun! Payton was a little unsure at first, but after a couple of minutes, she jumped right in! She had a blast, as you can clearly see in the pictures!

All that fun just makes a princess tired!

Today was a perfect Florida summer day! Payton and I joined family for some water play! Payton LOVES the water...a little too much! She has NO fear and just wants freedom to do her thing! (If anyone reading this has any great tips for teaching toddlers to swim, I'd love to hear them!) Fortunately, where we were at today, it was all shallow and very baby-friendly, so she had a little more freedom (but constant supervision, of course!)

Fun with Cousins!

We were so happy to have Jennifer and the boys visiting for several days last week. We had a wonderful time! Here are a few snapshots from our week...

Unfortunately, it rained so much last week. But, the evenings were dry, at least, so we tried to go do some kind of fun activity during the evening times. Everything was dry except the slide, anyway, as you can see from Payton's bottom! She got so wet on the slide!

Visiting my grandparents

While my immediate family were all in Oklahoma for the wedding, we visited my grandparents (on my dad's side) together. My parents, along with help from family, moved them into an independent living facility about a month ago. They are so happy there, and it was so nice to all be together for a little bit.

The facility has a nice community room we were able to use, so that we could all be together more comfortably.

My grandparents are wonderful, wonderful people. They have lived their lives for God and their family. I am so happy that they are still here to enjoy their great-grandchildren!

My uncle and aunt rode their motorcycle up to visit with all of us. This made for some interesting entertainment for the kids!!!

Uncle Larry and my brother gave Zach a slow ride around the parking lot. Zach was a little nervous at first, but was smiling and waving in just a few seconds!

Jake was ready to take off on his own!

On May 23rd, our extended family had the pleasure of welcoming Bruce Vaughn into our "official" family, as he married my cousin, Mandie. It was a beautiful ceremony, and a fun weekend for us all (though a bit busy!!!) Here are a few pictures from the weekend. You'll have to forgive the order. Some are from the pre-wedding pictures, some are from the actual wedding, and some are from the reception. I combined pictures from a couple different cameras, so I'm not completely sure which is which on some of them!

My brother and I sang "The Prayer" together. When we were kids, we sang together all the time. It has been a few years since the two of us have sang together, so we really enjoyed it!

Payton was not much in the mood for pictures before the wedding, so we were happy to get a couple where she wasn't crying! Many reasons to not be in the best mood--teething, lack of sleep from traveling, time change, new people everywhere, etc., etc. Oh well! I was just happy she made it down the aisle without crying!

This picture made laugh! The way she is standing, it made me think of the Runaway Bride! Fortunately, it was just the miniature one!

Like I said, Payton wasn't in a great mood, but again, this picture just made me laugh! Zach was trying so hard to get her to smile!!!

Fun in the Bounce House!

This past Friday night, we went to the Family Game Night for the young married families in our church. It was a really fun evening! I didn't take a lot of pictures, but I did snap a few of Payton playing in the bounce house. She had such a fantastic time! She squealed and laughed the whole time!!! The older children were so sweet to not jump right beside her or scare her. My sister-in-law, Mary, got some video, I think, so you can check out her blog soon to see that.

Payton's "new" thing is to try to copy everything we are doing...kinda scary! A few nights ago, I was just chillin' on the couch, and Payton decided to do the same. It was so cute. She wanted up on the couch, and then wiggled herself into a comfortable spot, and threw her arms up over her head like I had been doing. Such a "big" girl, she thought!

SO ticklish!!!

After church yesterday, Robb put a comfy Duren Roofing t-shirt on Payton before her nap. She found my shoes (all on her own!). She was SO proud of herself clomping around in my shoes! We were laughing so hard! They have a low heel, but on the wood floors, they are pretty loud, which made it all the more exciting! Quite the outfit, huh?!

I still remember playing dress-up with my mom's "high" heels...kind of a nostalgic moment to see my daughter doing that with my shoes! It brought this song to my mind: (my mind just switched the "he" to a "she"!)

Isn't every day Mother's Day?

Well, Happy Mother's Day (a day late!) to all you mothers out there! The weekend slipped by quickly...with me in bed for most of it! I caught some kind of nasty virus and have been sick since last Tuesday night. Finally, Saturday afternoon, the doctor recommended that I go to the ER. We actually went to a walk-in clinic, which was much faster and cheaper, and I got great care there. They gave me a full liter of fluids via IV, and included some pretty powerful drugs that did me in! However, by that night, all the sick feelings went away. I was just left feeling

p-r-e-t-t-y loopy and so tired! They also put me on a very strict diet (which made my mom's fabulous Mother's Day meal not so fabulous for me!). I am still pretty tired today, but definitely feeling tons better; by tomorrow, I expect to be in full swing again. All that to say...Mother's Day slipped by very quietly and completely and utterly PICTURELESS!!! We are having a fun family day on Saturday, hopefully, and I'll post some pictures then!

On Monday, before I got sick, we had our friend, and Robb's boss, take some outdoor pictures of Payton. He has a really, really great camera and did a very nice job. Here are a few of our favorites!

I decided that as nice as Mother's Day can be, so many plain, "everyday" days of the year feel just as special, with a husband as sweet as Robb, and a baby girl as good and charming as Payton!

Payton had a little run in (literally) with the door. Unfortunately, she was hurt worse than the door! All part of learning to walk, I know, but we had to document her first big "boo-boo"!

She got quite a knot on her forehead, but it was pretty much gone by this morning. All that's left is a nasty bruise! I was trying to get a picture, but she wouldn't hold still!

Her spirits were not diminished at all, however, and she still managed to get in all kinds of trouble!

I need locks and chains for the garbage cans!!! What a little monkey!

Our Easter Sunday

We had a beautiful Easter Sunday with family and friends. Our day started out with Payton's Easter Basket at home. Then, we were off to church to a wonderful Easter service. I sang in choir, Robb played for the choir, and also played the offertory, so it was a bit busy, but a wonderful service. After church, we went to my parent's house for a fabulous Easter Sunday dinner...with all the works! We were joined by the Heath's, and had such a wonderful time with them. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Payton's Easter basket held these sunglasses...she was thrilled! It's one of her new favorite things, though they are usually on upside down!

Somehow, the Easter dress and glasses just don't quite go together!

I had to include this picture...Payton has recently been especially into "cuddling"...we are loving it!

Payton- 15 months old!

Payton is so full of life! She has officially "figured out" walking, and is EVERYWHERE! Honestly, I've babysat lots and lots of children, and she is as busy a child as I've ever seen! We are enjoying watching her learn and grow with each passing day. Her vocabulary consists of "thank you", "Mama", "Dada (sometimes Daddy), "Nana", "Bye-Bye", and she tries to say "rocky-rocky" while rocking in "her" chair at my mom's house. Such a fun stage in her little life...we are looking forward to "hunting" Easter eggs tomorrow!

Happy Easter, everyone, and may we each remember and reflect on the true reason for Easter.

Shopping and Food in Paris

Well, those of you who know me had to be expecting this post! Shopping in Paris? Heavenly!

For Robb, eating in Paris? Heavenly!

Hope you enjoy a few snapshots of some of our favorites!

The Champs-Elysees is truly the place to see and be seen in Paris. This street hold lots of history in itself. At one end is the Arc de Triomphe (more on that later, but a very famous place!), and on the other end is the Louvre. You can imagine why the Champs-Elysees is the 2nd most expensive real estate in the WORLD, second only to Park Ave. in NYC.

You can see the Arc de Triomphe behind me. The shopping on this street was absolutely fantastic...notice I said the "shopping", not the "buying"! We didn't buy much here, but it really was fun to people-watch and window-shop!

One night, we enjoyed escargot! We were a little nervous about trying it, but we actually loved it! It tasted very much like stuffed mushrooms!

I forgot to take a picture before we started, but here we are, a couple snails into it!

Off to another restaurant for dessert...doesn't the window display say it all?

My huge puchase of the trip...Robb surprised me by having me pick out an Hermes scarf! Hermes is true "couture" French, and I, LOVING scarves, was very excited to have my very own real one!!! It is the perfect kind of scarf--can be worn as a belt, headband, or regular scarf around the neck! (If you look at the pictures of us eating escargot, I am wearing it in my hair).

The very large, flagship Hermes store was very interesting on its own. There is a leather guy there handmaking sadles, bridles, etc. The handbags there are truly for only the very, very wealthy, but it was fun to look!

These flower stands are on every corner, it seems!

One of my favorite children's shops along the Champs-Elysees.

No, this isn't a cathedral...it's a department store!!!! Can you believe it? It is absolutely beautiful...worth going just to see! One of the services this 9-floor store offers is a free personal shopper, so I made an appointment one afternoon and had a blast! I got a beautiful linen dress and shirt, but most of all, had lots of fun with a fashion "expert"!

Shopping at the Galeries Lafayette

The antiques flea market was a fantastic experience! I was wishing I could ship all the furniture home with me!!! I did find a couple of beautiful antique lanterns that would fit in my suitcase, and I haggled till the price was right...so much fun!

This is a different flea market...a small one right by our hotel. It mostly had food, things like that, but was also interesting. We only had a few minutes there, but I did find some smocked dresses for Payton for amazing prices!

Robb snapped this picture, saying it would be me if we lived there! I think it was actually a VENDOR'S car, not a SHOPPER'S!

Need I say more?

Good thing we walked everywhere we went, or we could have gained some serious pounds!

I'm getting hungry just blogging about these pastries! In America, this would be an expensive specialty shop...in Paris, just another cafe on another street corner...amazing!

Notre Dame Cathedral

The first stone of the Notre-Dame Cathedral was laid in 1163 by Pope Alexander III. It took 170 years to complete. It stands on the site of a Roman temple. For me, it was one of those places that you go see because you are "supposed" to see it, but I was so, so glad we did. It is extremely beautiful and impressive. The pictures aren't the greatest--we never were exactly sure if we could take pictures or not, so we tried to just do it discreetly!

This was interesting to me...see the smaller statues in the center of the picture? The heads of these statues were all cut off by the revolutionists during the French Revolution. Later, replicas were made and put back on the statues. During the last century, the real heads (all but 1) were discovered during a nearby excavation. They are now on display in the museum.

The ceiling...amazing that things like this could be built that long ago.

The choir stalls

If you get bored will all the stained glass...sorry! It was my favorite part! This is the famous South Rose window, which is 43 ft. high.

On the "back" of the cathedral are the flying buttresses. They span 50 feet, and are truly spectacular. Pictures truly do not do this place justice.

The Louvre

I have never considered myself a great lover of fine art, nor have I ever remotely claimed to understand it, but I was very excited to visit the Louvre in Paris. Robb knows much, much more about art than I do, and has a greater appreciation, so it was nice to "learn" from him (and from the tour guide!) This was one of those places that we definitely wanted a tour guide, and it was worth paying for. She was great, and we really learned a lot.

This smaller version of the Arc de Triomphe (called the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel) was built to celebrate Napoleon's victories in 1805. It is in near perfect symmetry with the Arc de Triomphe (only 2 mm off) at the other end of the Champs-Elysees. In case you are wondering, I have my guide book out, and I am double checking my spellings!

The Louvre was first constructed in 1190 by King Philippe, as a palace and fortress. It was replaced in 1515 by Francois I, and each king afterward added on and enlarged it. Any way you look at it...it is so much older than anything we have here in America!

This is one of the bases of the medieval moat, dating back to 1190, when the Louvre was a fortress.

Sorry...this is out of order! But, it does kind of show the modernization of the Louvre as a world-famous art museum.

This helmet was found in the 1980's, during an excavation project by the Louvre, and from the style and gold metal, is believed that it could have belonged to royalty, possibly King Phillipe himself.

Other pieces found in excavation, dating back to the 12th century. Funny...dominoes has been around for awhile...it didn't originate with the Huff family after all! :)

This statue is called the Winged Victory, and was found in Greece, dating back to the late 3rd, early 2nd century B.C. The head has never been found. It is in incredibly impressive statue.

And, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci! Yes, we were allowed to take pictures! I'm assuming the plexi-glass protecting wall has something that protects it from flash photography, because it was allowed. What an incredibly beautiful painting--and it really does feel like her eyes are following you...a tad creepy! "Check" off of my life's "to-do" list! :)

Napoleon III had a set of apartments in one part of the Louvre. Again, it was very impressive and interesting. Of course, the piano caught our eye!

This is in the courtyard of the Louvre, looking up and out of the glass pyramid (built in 1989 by an American architect.) The pyramid allows natural light into the underground parts of the Louvre.

We went back at night, and it was even more beautiful all lit up.

Our day trip to Versailles

On our second day in Paris, we took a bus, traveled about 45 min. outside the city, to see Versailles. The Versailles Palace was the Royal Residence built by King Louis XIV, starting in 1668. It was the largest palace in Europe, and housed 20,000 people at a time. Seriously, it's like a small city...and we only saw a small part of it! It was the royal residence through the time of Louis XVI and his Queen, Marie-Antoinette, who were beheaded by the French revolutionists in the late 1700's. Versailles was, in a way, one of the causes of the French Revolution. The Parisians were so poor and starving, and here, the King was living in such opulence. It was so interesting to see in person such a fascinating place that hold so much history.

The Main Entrance gates...gilded in gold...EVERYTHING is gilded in gold! (makes me think how much more amazing Heaven will be!)

At the back of the Main Palace are the Gardens of Versailles. Topiaries like these line every pathway.

The King's bedchamber. The tapestries, hangings, railing, etc. are all original to the time of King Louis XVI, who was the last king to live here. The railing was interesting to me...only the King was allowed past the railing. His servants could only pass if they were summoned. It was his "privacy." Not so private if you ask me!

This is funny...when I saw these cherubs, I thought of Payton! The dimpled buns and chubby legs look just like her!!!!!!

The great Hall of Mirrors. It runs about the length of the Main Palace. One side is all arched windows that look out over the gardens. Opposite the windows, in PERFECT symmetry are arched mirrors. The opulent chandeliers, gold mouldings, and paintings are truly spectacular. This was the location of many royal events, including weddings, dinners, balls, etc. If I remember correctly, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in the Hall of Mirrors.

Robb and I were being pretty silly at this point...taking our own picture in the mirror!

Outside the Palace...you see on the left side, where the gilding has been restored. On the right side, it is all gray. This is the exact same thing, only roof and molding on the left side has been restored. Versailles is currently under major restoration efforts on the exterior.

Tourist entrance to Versailles. The more "simple" buildings on either side were political buildings, residences of other "lesser" people, etc. Down the center of the picture, you see the gates and entrance to the Main Palace.

Going to Versailles was such a great trip. I definitely want to go again, and allow more time to visit the gardens and the Chateau of Versailles!

London--Day Three

Well, here's day three in London...a week later! It takes so much time to get these all on here and try to explain each one! Hope you enjoy them!

The St. James Garden (leading up to Buckingham Palace) is just beautiful. I can only imagine how great it must be in the summer, when all the flowers are in bloom!

One of Robb's favorite things is taking picutres of cool signs...I loved this one!

Changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace...quite the ordeal, as you'll see in the following pictures. During the winter, they do the whole pomp and circumstance every other day, and in the summer, they do it EVERY DAY! I can't imagine! It was impossible to actually see the changing of the guard, but the whole parade, bands, etc. was pretty impressive!

This huge fountain is directly in front of the Buckingham Palace gates.

This next little set of pictures is just a few from many...one of our absolute favorite things we did in London was visit the Churchill Museum and War Rooms. These underground rooms were left almost exactly as they were when Churchill and his War Cabinet led WWII. They said that in 1944 (when England was officially "safe" from Hitler), the officers and Churchill walked out, turned off the lights, and it was left untouched until the 1970's, when it was turned into this museum...so fascinating. Literally, most of it has been left untouched. Being WWII history "buffs", we were so excited to see it! This first picture is the "Map" Room, a large conference style room with European maps everywhere.

It was very dim, and hard to get pictures, but this give you some idea of how it looked.

This was the communications room. All the telephones, etc. were left exactly as they were found.

This very cool Bentley was our other mode of transportation...in our dreams!

One of my favorite things about traveling is to find quaint antique shops and that's what I buy for a souvenir...forget the junky stuff! Mind you, antiques in Europe can be VERY pricey, but I found this great wooden tray here for just the right price!

If you have seen the movie "Notting Hill", this street (Portobello Market Road) is where the market is that Hugh Grant walked through. His "Travel Bookshop" really exists on this road! On Saturdays, this place is really hopping! Unfortunately, we were there Sunday-Tuesday!

Our hotel...very small indeed, but clean and neat...and inexpensive!

This VERY cool pub was a popular hangout of Charles Dickens. We got there too late to eat, but we sipped a Coke and imagined what it must have been like "back in the day!"

London--Day Two

Day Two in London...a very full day! (The pictures are not in order of our day, as you'll see "morning" in Hyde Park at the end!)

Fortnum and Mason is a huge, famous department store in London. (I think it was London's first department store.) When we think "department store" in America, we think of going to the mall, but Europe's high-end department stores are an entirely different story! On the top floor of Fortnum and Mason is a beautiful restaurant, where we had "high afternoon tea." We were kind of going just to say we did it, but we actually loved it!

Everything was served on beautiful china...just fantastic! I wish we did this in America; it was so relaxing!

Outside Harrod's...the famous department store! Seriously, this place was so incredibly massive! We both really wanted to see it, but we saw and left...so expensive! We did get an adorable "Harrod's" teddy bear for Payton, though!

The children's section in Harrod's was incredible. This dollhouse was quite impressive, so we snatched a quick picture. It is modeled after an estate in London. I can't imagine actually playing with it...almost too pretty!

Westminster Abbey is just beautiful. The architecture is amazing.

Outside the entrance, over the doors, this carving represents the 12 apostles.

An incredible number of famous people are buried in Westminster, including some famous musicians (George Frederich Handel for one!), and many literary figures, including Charles Dickens. It is also the burial place of most of the monarchs. We grabbed just a few pictures. This one is a musician that isn't terribly famous for his own music, but he was responsible for bringing Haydn to England, which is very impressive.

David Lloyd George was a Prime Minister of England. This was particularly interesting to me, since I give private piano/voice lessons to his great-grandchildren!

Royal Albert Hall was constructed by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband, Prince Albert. It is a very famous music site, as many important musical programs have taken place here.

Hyde Park in the morning...it was just beautiful there! It is kind of like Central Park in New York City, but I think it is much prettier. Even in the winter, the grass stays this green because it is so well taken care of.

Gilded gates outside Kensington Palace. If you followed any of the Princess Diana tragedy, this is where the flowers and memorials were stacked 5 feet high all along the fence, after her death.

Again, we couldn't take pictures inside, but it was very interesting. Queen Victoria was the last monarch to live here, as Buckingham Palace became the official Royal Residence during her reign. It was absolutely beautiful. We only saw the Queen Victoria apartments. The rest of Kensington is still the residence of some of the royal family, including some of the Queen's first cousins. Princess Diana also lived here until her death. It looks small from the pictures, but it is absolutely massive!

I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures from our London/Paris trip. We were so blessed to have the opportunity to go. It was truly the trip of a lifetime; we had such a fantastic time--saw so much, learned so much...

Here are a few pictures from our first day in London.

St. Paul's Cathedral...I'll have more of these in the day 3 posting! This place was just amazing...makes our "pretty" churches look ridiculous!

Queen's Theatre...we went to see Les Miserables...one of my very favorite shows! We had never gotten to see it live before, so this was very exciting! The show was fantastic...the best I've ever seen!

Big Ben and the Parliamentary Houses...more of these later! (We were on a guide bus, so these aren't the greatest, but it gives you an idea...)

Inside the Tower of London...this small grassy area is where the beheadings took place back in the "good" (bad!) ole' gory London days, under King Henry VIII, "Bloody" Mary, etc. Seeing these places brought back so much information we learned in school about English history; it was so cool to see these famous places in real life!

The Tower of London is where the Crowned Jewels are kept. They are carefully guarded 24/7 by military, just like the one in the picture...I'm sure glad I don't have to wear one of those hats on a hot summer day! Can you imagine? The Crowned Jewels were spectacular. We obviously couldn't take pictures, but we saw crowns worn by Kings and Queens dating clear back to the 1600's! The largest diamond in the world is on display, part of a sceptre (can't remember which King it belonged to!). The current Queen Elizabeth's coronation garments were on display, along with her crown. It was truly amazing to see.

At first sight, this may seem like a goofy tour guide, which he was, but these military men actually live at the Tower of London. Their jobs include caretaker, guardsmen, and serving as tour guides. In order to have this honor (a high honor in England), they have to have a perfect "record", served in the Queen's military for many years (I think they said 25?), and be "chosen" to get this job. It's a pretty big deal! These are their official military uniforms that they wear every day.

Tower of London...the tower you see here looks just like an interior tower where prisoners were held until their trials...which often led to beheadings...such a gruesome history! Yet, very interesting for weirdos like us!

We are finally home! I have so many pictures to post, I'm not even sure where to begin! I thought we might be able to post some while we were away, but our hotel did not have free internet access...we found other ways to spend our carefully budgeted money than blogging!!! So, when I have some time, I will get some pictures on here...otherwise, I am LOVING having a second week of spring break to just play with my baby girl!!!

Today's the day! Robb and I are on our way to London and Paris for a delayed 5th Anniversary trip! We are so excited for the time away. One thing that we both absolutely love is Europe, along with all the interesting history, art, and music it holds, so we will be making the most of our week there. Payton is staying with my parents...that was a hard decision, but she'll be MUCH happier there than sitting in her stroller for a week...and we'll be able to do a lot more exploring through the cities, making the most of our trip. Payton LOVES her Nana and Grandpa...I fear that she won't even miss us one bit!!! We will miss her, but this is definitely the best decision for all of us! We will try to post some pictures while we are away...we're off!!!

In just a short two and a half months, my sweet cousin, Mandie, will marry a really great guy, Bruce. We are so happy for them, and decided to surprise her with a little shower! She came to Florida for a quick trip to help her sister and brother-in-law move back to Oklahoma, which provided a great opportunity! Since she has lots of friends still here in college that won't be able to make the trip to OK for the wedding, we wanted to do something special. So, last night, several Mandie's friends gathered at my house to surprise her! I think we almost succeeded...almost! We had fun anyway, and she got some nice gifts to get her started!

Since I can't post a blog without a picture of Payton...here it is! She had a great time playing with Wyatt!

Family Retreat 2009

This past weekend, we enjoyed a relaxing two days with families from our church...camping, eating, playing games, enjoying bon fires, great devotional times, and great fellowship. I left the "real" picture taking to my sister-in-law, Mary (you can view her blog on the side bar), but I did remember to grab my camera for a few really quick pictures on Saturday afternoon.

Kelly was in the middle of saying something to me, but I just loved this picture of Payton...she is already obsessed with the phone! Yikes!!! She knows right where it goes and jabbers away, with an occasional "Hi!"

As you can see, I wasn't busy with the camera (Payton kept me busy!), but we did have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!

February has been a busy month so far! Here are a few pictures from the past few weeks.

For Valentine's Day, we decided to forego the traditional romantic dinner and do something with Payton, which is one of our favorite things to do! We took her to the park (see below!) and then to Duffy's (one of our very favorite places to eat!) to watch the K-State/KU basketball game. Robb was one very proud K-State daddy (thank you Uncle Rick and Aunt Mary for the t-shirt!), especially when a KU fan walked in with his little girl all dolled up in a Rock Chalk Jayhawk t-shirt!

Robb and I took our Valentine's Day date the night before, and went to a Florida Panthers Hockey game. We had SOOOO much fun! Neither of us know much at all about hockey, but it sure was fun to watch!

I am well aware that all babies are beautiful...I'm glad I have one of them! (from a proud (in a good way!) mommy's heart!)

This past weekend, Payton and I made a trip back to Oklahoma, primarily to visit my dad's parents. We didn't get to go at Christmas (tickets were outrageous!), so we planned the trip for a little later!

We had a wonderful time, and packed a lot into one short weekend! On Friday, my mom and I almost completely cleaned out my grandparents' kitchen for them. It was a big job for anyone, much less them, so we were happy to help out. On Saturday, we joined my mom's two sisters and some of my cousins for a big, delicious breakfast. After that, the guys all went to do guy stuff, and the girls went to do some fun shopping. (I got a skirt at TJMaxx for $1.00...how's that for a bargain!!!) We all had a great time together. In the evening, we enjoyed a fabulous chili supper and games. On Sunday, we went to my dad's brother's home for a delicious Sunday dinner and some games before we flew out that evening. Here are a few pictures of the weekend.

Payton was fascinated by the automatic towel dispenser in the airport bathroom! She did incredibly well on the airplane. One man told her that she was born to fly!

Papaw and Payton had a great time playing together. We were so happy to see him doing SO WELL!!! A big answer to prayer!

They had a few Christmas and birthday presents for Payton, which she loved!

This pretend dog is hilarious! It does all this "real" dog stuff, obeys commands, etc....the perfect house dog! My dad even had fun playing with it!

January happenings...

The month of January held some other fun events, besides Payton's birhtday activities! Payton and I joined friends and family at the Women of Worth Tea, held at our church. Here are a few pictures from the evening. I really didn't take many, obviously!

On Payton's actual birthday, a couple of her little friends came over to play for a little while. Grace and Zachary helped make her morning extra fun!

One Week Old

One year ago was the most amazing day of our lives. We humbly accepted a wonderful, wonderful gift from God, in the form of a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Payton Ranae Huff was born on January 21st, 2008 at 10:55 p.m. She was 7 pounds 11 ounces, and 21 1/2 inches long. While she had made her way into our hearts from the moment we discovered that I was expecting, something about holding that tiny, pink, perfect bundle brought an overwhelming sense of love, joy, peace, and sheer fulfillment into our hearts and minds. Since that day, one year ago, we have enjoyed watching our baby grow into the bouncing, joyful one-year-old she is today! Payton daily brings laughter and joy into our lives. Her happy and humorous personality keep us smiling, and her strong personality keeps us on our toes! Here is a photographic journal of the most incredible 12 months of our lives!

Here are a few pictures from the weekend...enjoy!

Payton loves the new riding toy she got for her birthday from her Nana and Grandpa! She jigs right along to the music it plays...and she moves with the steady beat!!!

She hasn't gotten to wear this outfit very many times, as it has been an unusually warm winter. But with a nice cool front moving through, it was perfect for church last night! I just had to grab a few pictures!
